MotoGP: Dovizioso tests Aprilia in the wet at Mugello – roadracing world magazine

SECOND DATE IN MUGELLO FOR ANDREA DOVIZIOSO AND APRILIA RACING

THE WEATHER HAS NOT BEEN FAVORABLE, BUT THE TWO DAYS OF WORK BETTER ACHIEVED ANDREA, THE RS-GP AND THE TEAM.

ANDREA DOVIZIOSO: “DOING ANOTHER TEST WOULD BE GOOD”

The highly anticipated second meeting between Andrea Dovizioso and Aprilia RS-GP, scheduled for Mugello, did not benefit from the weather.

The two days on the Tuscan track were characterized throughout by rain, sometimes so light that the track was not fully wet and sometimes so heavy that it would have determined ‘red flag’ conditions, had it been. was a racing weekend.

It was obviously impossible to complete the planned work program, although Andrea was able to try out the ergonomic changes to the RS-GP, agreed after the first test in April. Despite the rain, the laps and the work in the garage were an important growth stage for Andrea to better familiarize herself with the bike and the team. Andrea’s final numbers were 23 laps on Tuesday and 22 on Wednesday for the two days at Mugello.

More precisely to resume the work started a month ago in Jerez under better conditions, Aprilia Racing and Andrea Dovizioso are evaluating the possibility of another test to be held during the month of June.

ANDREA DOVIZIOSO

“I was very happy to be back on the track with Aprilia, especially here at Mugello. It is a special circuit. The emotion I feel on this track is unique. We had no luck with the weather, but we still tried to make the most of these two days of testing. The grip was certainly not ideal for pushing hard, so we focused on understanding and improving the performance of the RS-GP under these conditions. At the end of the previous test, I did not express a definitive opinion as it was only a first contact, and I think it would be a mistake to do it now after two days of rain. I clearly have some ideas, but I think it would be ideal to have another chance to get to know Aprilia better. I’m very happy with the interest in my return to a MotoGP bike but, as I said before, I don’t have a long term plan. I have fun, I am relaxed and I evaluate my decisions step by step. “

ROMANO ALBESIANO – TECHNICAL DIRECTOR APRILIA RACING

“Even with the inclement weather conditions, these were two important days. Either way, we have tested the RS-GP in the wet for the first time and the guidance we have received from an expert rider like Andrea is extremely valuable. And, I have to say that Andrea did pretty well in these conditions, with some pretty interesting times. There is also an aspect which is less related to pure performance and more to knowing each other which obviously improves with each date. The two days at Mugello were an opportunity to get to know each other better and to work well together.
