Porsche previews the new Dakar 911
Automotive giant Porsche has unveiled a new preview of the Dakar 911, which is the first two-door sports car to offer outstanding off-road capabilities. The model’s name is inspired by Porsche’s first overall victory in the rally Paris-Dakar in 1984. It was a modified Porsche 911, equipped for the first time with an all-wheel-drive system, which won the race. The Porsche Dakar 911 will make its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16.
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s artwork sells for $1.5 billion
In an auction by Christie’s, the art collection of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, comprising 60 works of art – from a landscape by Van Gogh to a nude by Georges Seurat – has been sold for the staggering sum of $1.5 billion. The high price topped the record set earlier this year by Harry and Linda Macklowe, who after their divorce sold 65 works of art for $922 million, and thus landed in the luxury news.
Sotheby’s is selling a rare Hermès Kelly 25 for half a million!
One of the most eye-catching updates is from luxury brand Hermès. Hermès handbags are one of the most prized possessions, and Sotheby’s is auctioning off a rare handbag in a private sale for over half a million dollars. The Hermès Kelly 25on offer is expected to exceed the price paid for a similar bag that sold for $513,000 earlier this year also at a private sale, according to a Sotheby’s representative. The Hermès bag, a white Himalayan crocodile with 18k white gold hardware, could create a new world record. The clasp of the bag and the attached lock are set with 258 diamonds.
Samsung X Maison Margiela
It’s finally official, Samsung and luxury fashion brand Maison Margiela have unveiled the collaboration for the Galaxy Z Flip4. Samsung is adopting Maison Margiela’s shell technique for the Galaxy Z Flip4 with translucent lines that signify the phone’s internal circuitry. The wallpaper artwork and icons were custom-designed for this special edition and it includes two protective covers iconic phone. A unique leather cover that reflects the house’s signature bianchetto technique. The second cover revisits Maison Margiela’s iconic digital coding ring, evoking the house’s DNA. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Maison Margiela Edition will be available from December 1, 2022.
The $500,000 music box tourbillon from Jacob and Co.
The watchmaker Jacob and co. dropped a US$500,000 music box whirlwind to mark the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather. The 49mm is housed in a three-axis flying tourbillon, a music box complication that plays off Nino Rota’s The Godfather theme using 120 pins against two combs and an enamelled red rose at its center. Both gold barrels rose are engraved with the film’s most memorable quotes on the exterior, highlighting new lines of dialogue as they rotate. The 18k white gold case also features 13 photorealistic scenes from the film in narrative order.
