Liverpool FC – ‘The artist with an end product’

So far this epic season, Mane has won the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup with Liverpool, was voted Player of the Tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations which he won with Senegal, guided his country all the way to the World Cup final and scored 29 times. in 64 games. The stats and silverware are quite extraordinary, but it’s the skills and thrills behind the numbers that deserve to be savored and celebrated. He is the man for the big occasion, the artist with the end product.

He is devastating from the left and also a force when unleashed in the center by Jürgen Klopp. His endurance and bursts of speed are prodigious. He scores with his right foot, often his left and often his head. He can hold off heavyweight defenders or rush through. It stalks as well as attacks. He is a team man.

Its range of finishes is vast. There’s Kostas Tsimikas’ overhead kick from the cross against Norwich City, variously described as “acrobatic”, “elegant” and “outrageous”. There’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross header against Brighton & Hove Albion. He uses the outside of his right foot to strike Thiago Alcantara’s cross to place the ball past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson. Or race down the inside right channel to feast on Mohamed Salah’s glorious pass to beat Ederson.

Mane is also a magnificent role model, helping friends, family and the community in Senegal. Mane is not just playing for his team and for himself, but for many others at home who depend on him. If there is pressure, he does not show it. He just delivers.

And Mane has maintained his form in a grueling season that could last 11 months for him and in which he flew around the world twice, mostly with Senegal. Even after the two AFCON summits and reaching Qatar, where his penalties were so decisive, Mane continued to score for Liverpool. There was no drop in form, just a steady supply of goals. Returning from Dakar after the World Cup play-offs, Mane has scored nine times in 14 games. They were also important goals, including against Benfica and Villarreal in the Champions League, beating City in the FA Cup semi-finals and drawing the league at the Etihad. Of the seven goals Liverpool have scored against City this season, Mane has four. The stature of the opponents does not bother him. Against Chelsea and Atletico Madrid this season, Mane has struck.
