“It’s going to be crazy” – Valentino Rossi returns to Misano | MotoGP
Misano is located just 15km from Rossi’s home town of Tavullia, with The Doctor delighting local fans with MotoGP victories at the Italian track in 2008, 2009 and 2014.
It’s a circuit Rossi knows better than any other and, having clinched a 14th place finish last time out at Zandvoort, Rossi and his WRT Audi teammates will be looking to recapture the kind of form that brought them fifth in Paul. Ricard in early June.
“It will be a weekend full of emotions for me, because I live very close to the track,” said Rossi, whose two-wheeled career at Misano ended with a tenth-place finish in the MotoGP round of Emilia-Romagna last October.
“I have raced at Misano several times with motorcycles, but I also have some experience with cars, having tested a lot over the years.
“I also tested last winter with Team WRT and the sensations were very good. It’s a tough track, it takes time, and some [kerb] cuttings, to find the best line, but we’ll see over the weekend.
“And, of course, we can expect warm weather and large crowds.”
“It’s going to be crazy because of the presence of Vale”
His WRT teammate Thomas Neubauer expects Rossi’s mania to create a Misano atmosphere like no other this weekend.
“There’s always a great vibe there, but this year it’s going to be crazy because of Vale being there, and it’s definitely going to be worth living it all out,” Neubauer said.
“Vale will be racing at home, so it would be nice to have a good result there,” added Frederic Vervisch. “The test we did earlier in the season went well, hopefully the performance will be there for the real races as well.”
WRT team principal Vincent Vosse said: “We know Misano well and have often performed well there. Hopefully that will be the case this year too.
“It will be a home race for the #46 car and a very special weekend for Vale, and we hope he makes the most of it.”
