Shimla, May 29

As preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally to mark the eighth anniversary of NDA rule on May 31 are being finalized, rehearsal for the plane’s landing and cavalcade movement took place today today.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur along with Urban Development Minister and local MP Suresh Bhardwaj handed out invitation cards to residents for the rally. He also visited Holly Lodge in Jakhu to invite Pratibha Singh, MP for Mandi and wife of the late Virbhadra Singh, to attend the rally.

Security in and around the rally site has been tightened and the stage has been prepared. There is a heavy police deployment across the city and RT-PCR testing of all staff and officers who may come into close contact with the Prime Minister, Union Ministers and other dignitaries is underway to provide protection against Covid.

The rehearsal for the PM helicopter landing at Annandale has taken place. A cavalcade movement from Annandale where the Prime Minister will land to the rally venue on Ridge via Rani Jhansi Park has been undertaken. The main gate to Rani Jhansi Park has been removed to facilitate the free movement of the Prime Minister’s cavalcade up the slope from the mall to the ridge.

The vehicles that will be part of the Prime Minister’s cavalcade have been parked in the Vidhan Sabha car park, where MPs park their vehicles as it is close to the Annandale landing site.

There is a rain cover at the rally venue. About 10,000 chairs were placed on the ridge for participants. A cleanliness campaign was also undertaken by BJP official Avinash Rai Khanna and other party workers in the city ahead of the rally.

A target of 50,000 people has been set for the rally and efforts are being made to mobilize as many rallies as possible across the state.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister listened to the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ broadcast with Avinash Rai Khanna at Badash village in Kasumpti Vidhan Sabha constituency. BJP State Chairman Suresh Kashyap heard the ‘Mann ki Baat’ in Totu in Shimla Rural Assembly Constituency.
