Not one to fall back on basic 5-pocket jeans, G-Star Raw explores its originality in a new capsule collection.
Described as a range of “new premium products”, the Exclusives by G-Star Raw collection is based on the design team’s experimentation with denim-focused garments to create “elevated, refined styles with a thoughtful conceptual touch”.
Specifically, the collection is inspired by the Dakar Rally, an annual rally raid event for amateur and professional drivers that takes place in various locations such as Paris, the Senegalese capital of Dakar and, more recently, in Saudi Arabia. Pieces in the collection mimic the tough “Enduro” gear worn in the racing environment, described by G-Star, with reversible features and unusual silhouettes.
A palette of light greens and pinks soften looks for spring, while Japanese denim with embroidered artwork and color blocking adds personality to each garment.
Multiple pieces are key to the ongoing transition to roomier fits.
The Bomber E has a loose design and a detachable hood with an extended panel that covers the top of the shoulders for “optimal coverage”. The quilted jacket has zipped pockets at the waist and a large flap pocket on the chest. The oversized sleeves are reinforced with a woven tape along the seam and multiple pleats at the elbows.
A pink trench coat with a double-layer fabric belt is inspired by parkas designed for extreme weather conditions, and the GSRR 3D A-Cropped jeans are inspired by G-Star’s iconic Elwood jeans. Created from two denim fabrics – a 100% cotton Japanese Kaiyo denim and a 100% cotton twill – the jeans offer a loose bootcut fit. The woven band reinforces the seams on the inside of the legs.
Men’s and unisex styles include the E Washed Leather Jacket, which has the construction of a classic biker jacket but enhancements such as inseams that create an oversized look. The white leather jacket features back pleats, sleeve pockets and premium mesh lining.
The E72H suit is based on an archival G-Star piece with enough pockets to store 72 hours of necessities, according to the brand. Elasticated hems and collars add freedom of movement to this serious workwear. The Lifevest E72H shirt offers storage space for 24 hours of essentials.
The limited-edition collection is available now and sells for between $310 and $950.
