Austin MotoGP: “Still a lot of areas I have to work on” – Dovizioso | MotoGP

Andrea Dovizioso heads into this weekend’s MotoGP at the Circuit of the Americas focusing on further improvements after his return to the premier class at Misano.

The three-time championship finalist was the last of 21 to arrive at Misano, however, a two-day test at the same location last week provided Dovizioso with a second chance to familiarize himself with the M1 machines – the last time he raced a Yamaha in 2012.

Dovizioso, who is competing on Franco Morbidelli’s former 2019 specification machine until the end of this season, will be on 2022 machines like his fellow Italian and Fabio Quartararo next season.

But before that, Dovizioso has “a lot of areas I have to work on” in the last four rounds of this year.

“There are still a lot of areas I need to work on, but it was good to have the Misano test to help me increase my time on the bike,” said Dovizioso.

“I’m not sure what to expect from this weekend as I’ll have to see what the track is like and find out where the grip is.

“It’s a very demanding track and the last time I was there the track had a lot of bumps but I think they’ve made a few changes since then.

“The weather will of course have an impact, but it will be the same for everyone. It’s very difficult to predict what will happen but I hope to keep improving this weekend.”

This weekend’s American grand prix is only the second to be held outside Europe since the Covid-19 pandemic, the other being Qatar.

In his seven COTA appearances, Dovizioso finished in the top seven in every race except in 2016 when he crashed – his best result being second the year before.
